Egypt hosts the 27th annual UN meeting on climate from 6 to 18 November. This year’s edition marks the growing commitment of Middle Eastern and North African countries to global climate action. “Together for Implementation” is the slogan under which COP27 will be held. However, the overall success of the Conference risks being undermined by the growing level of confrontation at the international stage, mainly due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and its political and economic repercussions. Against this backdrop, what are the prospects for COP27 to be successful? How has the Ukraine war already influenced climate policies in the MENA region?
